How to protect your energy during the holiday season

The holidays can be a challenging time of the year. Family and friends tend to trigger one another; I do feel that’s mostly unintentional, mainly because the tension and stress accumulated throughout the year haven’t had the space to be acknowledged, digested and released.

If you are like me, sensitive to energy, you may notice the energy taking on a more intense frequency during this time. People seem to drive more chaotically than usual, rushing ahead, eager to be first. There’s an undercurrent of urgency and agitation in the air. And yet, beneath the apprehension and the what ifs, there remains a deep longing to gather, to be held in the presence of our loved ones.

Here are three gentle practices to help you keep your heart and mind at peace during the holidays:

1. Take an intentional bath before meeting your loved ones.

I know you’ll shower, but a bath has its own kind of magic. Immerse yourself in the water and allow it to cleanse your energy and soften your nervous system. While you’re in the bath, set an intention on how you want to feel during the holidays—peace, kindness, love, compassion? Also, ask yourself: Do I choose to react or to respond?
When your intention is clear in your heart, awareness naturally follows, especially in challenging moments.

2. Imagine yourself surrounded by a beautiful white light.

This light offers strength, guidance, and protection. If a moment arises where someone “steps on your tail,” choose to go outside and reconnect with Spirit. Think of those movie scenes where someone is on a remote island with no Wi-Fi—they go outside to find reception. Metaphorically, humans are the same. When we feel disconnected, nature is where our signal strengthens again.

3. Take three conscious breaths and drop into your heart space.
Your heart knows what truly matters and what is simply noise. From the heart, clarity replaces reaction, and meaning replaces overwhelm.

We also have the Winter Solstice coming up on Sunday, December 21st—a sacred invitation to pause, slow down, and reflect on the year that’s coming to a close.

I felt called to pull a card for this holiday season, and the message that came through was the Queen of Pentacles. This card reminds us that the greatest gift we can offer during the holidays is our calm and nurturing presence. The Queen of Pentacles is deeply rooted in her heart and body. She invites us to slow down and care for ourselves first, before trying to hold space for others.

This holiday season, choose nourishment over depletion, and let your heart lead the way.

Merry Christmas, Beautiful Soul!
