Are you a fan of housework?

This morning I went to the gym as a good citizen, hoping to save the NHS a few pounds. Afterwards, I popped into Waitrose to grab some milk.

At the entrance, two ladies were chatting. One of them said, quite passionately:

“I can’t stand housework. It’s boring, it’s repetitive, and it never ends.”

I felt her pain so deeply that I almost wanted to chime in and say: ME TOOOOO!

I, more than once, felt like this lady. Staring 😳at the vacuum cleaner, the laundry pile, the kitchen counter… and wondering how it all magically returns every single day. Cleaning, tidying, organising, it can feel like a never-ending cycle of “didn’t I just do this yesterday?”

But you know what? Sometimes it’s perfectly ok to admit that we’re fed up. That feeling often pops up when life has become a bit too routine, and we haven’t sprinkled in enough of the things that light us up like a theatre show, an exhibition, a spontaneous outing, or even better… a holiday that completely breaks the rhythm of everyday life.

Clothesline

Life needs balance to be able to do the things that are not so high on our priority list.

For me, what actually motivates me to keep the house tidy is something quite simple: my mind gets agitated when there’s too much disorder around me. Even if we think we’re not bothered by the mess, our subconscious mind quietly absorbs everything. It feeds all that visual noise straight into our nervous system, and suddenly we feel anxious, restless, or slightly annoyed… without really knowing why.

A calm space often creates a calmer mind.

So while housework may never make it onto my list of favourite hobbies, I do appreciate the peace that comes afterwards.

But now I’m curious…

Are you a fan of housework? Or are you also, like me, part of the “I swear I just cleaned this!” club? 😄
